  3.  Describe sexual dysfunctions and their causes and recognize treatment approaches.

  5.  Identify and discuss various forms of sexual deviation.
  6.  Analyze social and legal trends in the field of sexuality.

Describe the meaning of sex and how historically religions, early science, cross-cultural perspectives, media, and the sexual health perspective have shaped views of sexuality. 6

Describe the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and psychological aspects of the various types of sexually transmitted diseases and viruses, and genital infections. 1

Distinguish abnormal sexual behavior using each of the four approaches (statistical, sociological, psychological, and medical) and how the normal-abnormal continuum differentiates variations in sexual behavior. 5

Explain rape and compare and contrast the different forms of rape to include child sexual abuse, impact on the victim and offenders. 5
Explain sexual harassment and investigate the ways sexual harassment takes place at work, at school, and in doctor-patient relationships. 5
Describe prostitution, including its venues, sex workers, customers, sex trafficking, and the role of early abuse. 5
Differentiate the types of pornography and describe the customers, pornography’s effects, and its objections. 5
Differentiate the kinds of sexual disorders, causes, and therapies, how to avoid sexual disorders, and, if needed, how to choose a therapist. 3

Describe the basic concepts of sexual ethics, the influence of the great ethical philosophies and religions, contemporary issues, and technology. 6
Explain the different kinds of sex laws, reasons for having them, which laws are discriminatory related to sexuality, enforcement of the laws, trends in sex-law reform, and how they may change in the future. 6

Course Time Commitment and Expectations

For every credit hour, students should plan to spend an average of 2-3 hours per week for course-related activities in a 15-week course. For example, a 3 credit hour course would average an average 6-9 hours per week to read/listen to the online content, participate in discussion forums, complete assignments, and study the course material. For 10  and 6-week courses, the amount of time per week will be higher so all course competencies, module outcomes, and assignments will be covered.
