Course Competencies

The competencies you will demonstrate in this course are as follows:

  1. Define a project and its elements.  
  2. Produce the components of a project plan, i.e., goals, preliminary project plan, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), activity schedule with necessary precedence/successor relationships and network diagrams for a project.  
  3. Illustrate the creation of a project schedule.
  4. Discuss the development and use of network diagram techniques.
  5. Construct a budget.
  6. Explain how to control project costs.
  7. Explain how to calculate a project's earned value and its significance to the project team.
  8. Analyze project quality using metrics and control tools by ensuring that the end deliverables fulfill the project requirements and scope of work.
  9. Illustrate the concept of different types of risks, their uncertainties, and associated mitigation strategies to minimize the overall risk uncertainties.
  10. Define project procurement standards and its association with the different types of contracts.

Course Time Commitment and Expectations


Three Credit Course

The semester schedule for this course may be 15 weeks, 10 weeks, or 6 weeks in duration. Based on the course format, this table shows the approximate amount of time you should plan to spend per week on this course. This includes time to read/listen to the online content, participate in discussion forums, complete all assignments, and study the course material.

For accelerated courses, the amount of time required per week is greater. Note that regardless of course format, the course material is the same and all course competencies, module outcomes, and assignments will be covered.
