Course Competencies

The competencies you will demonstrate in this course are as follows:

  1. Examine texts across multiple genres, contexts, and cultures.
  2. Analyze literary models with an emphasis on form and technique.
  3. Identify how these aspects of craft contribute to a text's literary, aesthetic, or emotional effects.
  4. Compose within multiple genres.
  5. Extend practice in a particular genre or genres.
  6. Use genre-specific craft elements in writing and revising.
  7. Provide critically constructive responses to other students’ work in both oral and written form.
  8. Create drafts using the creative writing process.
  9. Reflect on workshop feedback to assist in the revision of one’s own work.
  10. Apply form, grammar, punctuation, and style to achieve desired aesthetic effects in written work.
Learning concepts for this course are enchanced using modules, websites, and online discussions.

Course Time Commitment and Expectations

The semester schedule for this course may be 15 weeks, 10 weeks, or 6 weeks in duration. Based on the course format, this table shows the approximate amount of time you should plan to spend per week on this course. This includes time to read/listen to the online content, participate in discussion forums, complete all assignments, and study the course material.

For accelerated courses, the amount of time required per week is greater. Note that regardless of course format, the course material is the same and all course competencies, module outcomes, and assignments will be covered.
