Course Competencies
- Outline the history and development of criminology
- Discuss how crime data is collected and how it is interpreted to yield crime patterns and trends
- Critique the use of statistics, their validity, and significance in criminological research
- Identify and apply major theories in criminology as analytical frameworks under the etiology of crime
- Evaluate the nature, extent, causation, and prevention of crime, including the ability to apply and critique the major theories relevant to those causes
- Compare and contrast conservative, liberal, and radical approaches to crime control

Course Time Commitment and Expectations
The semester schedule for this course may be 15 weeks, 10 weeks, or 6 weeks in duration.
